BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
spjevj Smuggling scene. Brave colonial smugglers fall into a Royal Navy trap. Cut to the deck of H.M.S. Whatever, and what do we see? A warship manned entirely by Redcoats -- an entire quarterdeck of soldiers. Seriously? We couldn't afford some blue coats? Either this bilge was written BY people this ignorant, or it was written FOR people this ignorant. Pitiful.
james-seaford Actually, it was the first five minutes, but I persevered. I guess I had an expectation that there would be some actual history in it. This is like that Japanese Restaurant where no Japanese would set foot in the place, much less work there. Not an authentic experience. Characters are all one-dimensional, lead actor is putting on a rather strong American actor for the period (which is very odd because the actor is British). The dialogue is even odder, and reminds me of something you would find in Buffy the Vampire rather than a TV series on a subject matter Americans all take rather seriously - when done right, the results are amazing i.e. John Adams. Use a long stick to avoid this hazard.
Simply-Red Spoiler alert! If you are trying to get a history lesson with period accurate props, script and language...move on, this is not for you. This is a History Channel production...that channel is run by Progressives and wouldn't dare provide real history in a program like this because it would fly in the face of the false narrative Progressives strive to teach our children about American History. With that said, it portrays the Americans in a surprisingly good light. The American Colonist's "American accents" and manner of speaking is "slight grin" type of funny if you take this little series for what it is..."entertainment". It's a fun, fast moving loose synopsis of the beginning of the American Revolution. It ends as the war just gets underway. This is not to be taken very seriously. It's a loose take on history, but not a historical drag like many serious history flicks can be.This is History Channel, people...it has about as much historically correct credence these days as the Weather Channel's regurgitating the "man made global warming" farce. Only a fool would believe it in total.
redinnevada I know, I know...it took "liberties" with historical accuracy. What book, movie or TV show hasn't though? This one was engaging, entertaining and thought provoking. But the biggest bang was the last 30 minutes. It was worth watching everything just for the signing of the Declaration of Independence and George Washington reciting parts of it to the troops before battle. For those who want to strictly adhere to history, watch a documentary. Because this presentation does dramatize and show some things that were only conjecture in the books we've read. But it weaves a core of truth through it all that makes you FEEL how powerful the choices these men made were. What this show will do (should do) is compel people to want to know more. Want to understand more. Sure, Wikipedia will be a fantastic resource to have open during the watching, but hopefully it will instill a thirst for knowledge of where "we" started, how far we've come and how far we still have to go in so many ways.Personally, I'm going to get a copy to watch with my older grandkids before the next 4th of July. It's a great way to introduce them to the fantastic heritage they have. Something they can't get out of a school book.
