While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

When this show originally aired I remember watching a couple of seasons, then let it slip off my watch schedule. Up to a few months ago I couldn't remember why. Thanks to Comet TV, who just rebroadcast the series. I forced myself to sit through the entire 5 seasons and can now answer that question with one name, Rodney McKay.During the first couple of seasons he was treated as more of a secondary character. His caustic personality and incessant whining was tolerable when taken in small doses. As the show progressed though, his part expanded into a major cast member. By the time season 4 rolled around it seemed like almost every episode centered on him (so much so I'm surprised they didn't rename the show "The Rodney McKay Hour") killing most desires I had to watch it. It's a shame, too. The rest of the cast, and most of the story lines, were pretty interesting. I just could have done without the "fingers on a chalkboard" feeling the McKay character brought to the mix.

Not everything about Atlantis is better than SG-1. Joe Flanigan, the show's lead actor, simply doesn't possess the same screen presence as Richard Dean Anderson did in SG-1. Luckily, he is surrounded by interesting, well-acted characters - most of whom have deep issues and character flaws that define how they react to situations. Also, SG-1 managed to keep its actors together longer than Atlantis. That said, Stargate Atlantis is a remarkably well-written and high-minded science fiction show that focuses more on action and big ideas than its predecessor. It vastly expands upon the mythos of the Stargate franchise and manages to ask the big questions in an original fashion, like great sci-fi tends to do. Then, it is a testament to the quality of Atlantis that its action scenes also speak for themselves. Money was clearly spent on the effects right from the start, because there are often epic otherworldly shots and heart-pounding action scenes that rarely disappoint. Everything from the space battles to the claustrophobic firefights are often executed spectacularly but are always at least serviceable.Bottom line - if you enjoyed Stargate SG-1, then you should appreciate Stargate Atlantis. It maintains the trajectory of SG-1's later- season ascension into a more epic scale, but Atlantis encompasses this scale better than SG-1 ever could. This is a must-watch for sci-fi fans of all ages. 8.5/10

************May contain spoilers*************** Just been catching up with the series on Netflix, and can only say that it's another show cancelled way too early. Was it perfect ? No. Was it enjoyable ? Yes.Unfortunately, Sci-fi on TV seems to often be the first casualty in cuts. While 'reality' shows and cheap soap operas carry on indefinitely. And this shows here quite clearly. An ending that seemed to be rushed - and left many stories left to be explored - primarily, did they ever get Atlantis back to the Pegasus Galaxy.A show that could easily have had at least another 2 seasons - but like many shows, seems set to languish.Shame.

One of my favorite series. I was a bit hesitant when i starting the series- i mean come on? wormhole and stargates? but as it progressed i found myself captivated. It is, actually, a quite addicting and thrilling watch.I love the twists and love how the characters find a way through what it seems- an impossible situation. It tugs your emotion too, drawing you deeper and deeper in the story line.I have found myself loving a lot of characters: Dr. Mckay, Dr. Becket, etc. Over all, it's an amazing series, lot's of conflicts and lots of surprises...
