Shari Brooke Shields has the best of intentions, but she needs work. I like this show though because I like her. It was funny though, but some of her comical executions needed work. The show's premise is a young woman who left the altar to be her own woman. She's a writer for a San Francisco paper called The Gate and has a thing for the editor, well, was the editor. His name was Jack. The entire show revolves around their sexual tension and them trying to date other people but eventually coming back to each other. When the show lost Jack, they lost most of the funniness. It ended rather sillily (sorry), but I like the guy she married cuz I'm a fan of his. The show lost it's luster after awhile and the Todd guy killed himself, so you didn't wanna laugh anymore. The characters are Vicky, Luis, Todd, and Nana. Once, there was the mean blonde arch nemesis of Susan's, but I forget her name. Oh yea, Maddy. She really was mad as in loco. All, she-woman and bitchy about everything. Anyway, Vicky's the promiscuous funny one that's the food critic who married a rabbi and has horrible hair and fashion sense. Luis is a Cuban immigrant who's a photographer and can't catch a woman (how cliche), but he and Maddy had a thing. Todd is the child of hippie parents who has bad luck with females and he writes for the music column. Thus, the hilarity ensues. Oh yea, and Nana. Well, she's a hip old lady who guides Susan through the mess of her life. The show changed characters too often to really get a fan base and it could be pretty stale, but I watched anyway in the vain hopes of it amounting to something. It was on Must See TV Thursday nights for goodness sakes. Now it's in syndication/re-run land on Lifetime at 2 a.m. Tough break. Watchable though. My fave epi was when Christopher Atkins, Brooke's male lead in The Blue Lagoon, guest starred as a poker playing dull guy on the show. His famous line to Susan, "I wouldn't date you if we were two teenagers on a deserted island!". Well, I thought it was funny...try and catch it. It's not Friends, but worthy.

dbell8400 I still watch re-runs of this show on FOX and love it so much. The casting is great and the storylines in each EP were wrote well. I was a huge fan of Kathy Griffin David Strickland's characters. Them two are the main reason I watch - both amazing performers. It was said once I learned of David's death. He will live on, in my mind each time I watch a re-run. :]

The Horseman Enter scene. Two or more characters talk for a while. They say things which aren't funny. Background laughter. All present pause while the background laughter is on. Resume talking. Somebody will use a joke that was once funny in 1953. Background laughter again. Resume talking. Some physical bit of comedy will be used. Nobody will laugh at home. The audience will split their sides. Like before, everyone will pause for a nanosecond while the background laughter playsEnter scene......

Brian-272 "Suddenly Susan" isn't the best series it likes much in terms of the stories and plot work to make the many episodes interesting. I can say that if you like Brooke Shields at all then watch this series! Now don't you like the fact of having Brooke working in a magazine company! I always just liked everything about Brooke Shields she is so beautiful and very sexy. You can watch the "Suddenly Susan" reruns late at night on WGN. This is a must see if you like and enjoy watching Brooke Shields.
