Synopsis

The Adventures of Pete & Pete is an American children's television series produced by Wellsville Pictures and broadcast by Nickelodeon. The show featured humorous and surreal elements in its narrative, and many recurring themes centered on two brothers both named Pete Wrigley, and their various interactions with family, friends, and enemies. The show was created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi and began as minute-long shorts in 1989 that aired in between regular programs. Owing to the popularity of the shorts, five half-hour specials were made, followed by a regular half-hour series that ran for three seasons and continued in reruns until around 1999. The N aired reruns of the show between 2002–2003. The first two seasons were released on DVD in 2005; the third was planned for 2006 but was indefinitely postponed. Jason Ankeny of Allmusic called the series "the greatest children's show ever," while IGN called it "One of the most well-written kids shows ever."

Reviews

Boobirt Stylish but barely mediocre overall
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
Cohen Hartman If you compare "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" to other kids shows playing at the time, as well as now, nothing compares. Several of the competing shows at the time were "Clarissa Explains It All," "Hey Dude Ranch," and "Camp Idonwanna." Each of these shows had built sets and a never-changing cast. The scenes rarely or never deviated from their sets, and new actors were rarely introduced into the shows. Pete and Pete, on the other hand, filmed all over the place. Several different cities and neighborhoods, different houses, backyards, highways, the great outdoors, and more were used as sets. Top notch guest actors also appeared on the show over the seasons frequently as well. "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" is the most memorable kids show to date, and you should definitely check out the DVD box sets.
Scoopy Unlike many who commented on this show, I didn't grow up watching Pete and Pete. You see, I'm nearly 60 years old.I discovered it by accident, or I should say that my stepdaughter discovered it by accident, then I walked by and got hooked like Bob the bass. I ended being the show's biggest fan. As I re-watch it on DVD, I love it more than ever. Today I got season two and was going to watch one episode to pass the time. That had a prayer. As soon as I saw the episode names, I knew I had to watch them again: The Time Tunnel, Inspector 34, The Phone Call. Those three episodes alone will demonstrate to you that this series is good in ways that no other series has ever touched. It says as much about America as any Ken Burns documentary, it makes me laugh as much as the best episodes of Seinfeld, and it's cooler than anything which ever sprang from the mind of Slushmaster Bob. Its narrative flow is deeply cynical, yet there is a strong undercurrent of warmth and hope, as if it despairs of what people are, without forgetting what they yet might be. It never forgets that we, like the Petes when they time-travel, may yet find a way to do it over, and get it right. Even without Riboflavin.I have been a major league TV addict for 50 years, and if you ask me to name the best show I have ever watched ... well, I don't know if I could name just one ... but this obscure Nickelodeon show would be one that would come to mind - alongside I, Claudius and The Civil War and The Simpsons and all the other greats. It's sheer genius, with more than a touch of poetry. In the words of Inspector 34, it's so much better than underpants.

Because of this ridiculousness, if I said IMDb changed from "profiteering" to "anal sex"...will IMDb invoke some crazy "sodomy" law to make sure "The Godfather" is Numero Uno on the Very Disturbed 250 list?IMDb just doesn't get the Petes.
myopichobbit29 The Adventures of Pete and Pete were a massive part of my childhood, one of the shows I grew up on, in the same group with Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Ren and Stimpy.Pete and Pete was a wonderfully bizarre show, which may explain why I like it so much, being sort of weird myself. It reminded me of all the awesomeness of summertime, the fun with friends, and the Christmas spirit (a favorite episode of mine.) Me and my brother still joke about Endless Mike's ceramic cat and his love of Neopolitan ice creams. (I cannot watch Band of Brothers without my thoughts going to The Adventures of Pete and Pete.) The best episode was probably the one where Little Pete and his friends Wayne, Monica, and Nona travel all night to recharge his lucky penny. Bus driver Stu was hilarious in his insane ways. And Artie, the Strongest Man *pause* in the World! Bottom line: I love this show. I'm really happy to see it coming out on DVD, and I will be making a trip to buy it very soon. Rent it, buy it, check it out if it ever comes on TV again (for shame, Noggin!), but be sure you see this show!
