The Adventures of The Black Stallion is a television series that was loosely based on the movies The Black Stallion and The Black Stallion Returns, which starred Mickey Rooney and Richard Ian Cox, as a trainer and a teenaged horse racer. The series originally ran on The Family Channel from September 15, 1990 to May 16, 1993, before cancellation. It has since been shown in re-runs throughout the world. Most of the episodes are set around Canada. During the second and third season, the show moves away from the farm, and has many episodes set in New Zealand, Paris and the United States. Nonureva Really Surprised!
Reptileenbu Did you people see the same film I saw?
Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Keira Brennan The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
disdressed12 this is the 1990's TV show, not the movie from 1979.it looks to be three episodes totaling just under 90 minutes.before watching,i thought it was one of the movie versions, and i noticed right away,it had a TV show Feel to it.i didn't care for it too much.i just felt the story wasn't there, and there wasn't much in the way of excitement or drama.i was looking at the time elapsed on my DVD player frequently,as i was really bored.i also thought some of the dialogue was,to put it politely, not good.plus, i thought the acting left a lot to be desired. but that's just me however,it is good clean, wholesome family entertainment.there's certainly nothing offensive here.kids will likely enjoy it.for me,The Black Stallion is 4/10
mwer347-1 Overall, I thought it was a good show, though I must admit that I only saw the first two seasons. I didn't read all of the Walter Farley books, so I don't know if the stories went along with the books. There was a comment about how they didn't that I saw here... give me a break! I don't think it would have been as good a show if it had been set in the 1940s, like the books. The books I read (The Black Stallion, Return of the Black Stallion, and The Black Stallion's Blood Bay Colt are a few of the titles I can remember) were all set in the past. Were the shows that were filmed in New Zealand or took place there (the 3rd season) on the Family Channel? Why did they suddenly go from France to New Zealand? Did Nicole accompany Alec, Henry and the Black? For that matter, can anyone explain why Catherine and Pierre left? I think there was some mention of Catherine's father living closeby in the episode called "The Neuchatel Stallion." Are the 3rd season episodes available on DVD?
MaraudersFan This series was based on Walter Farley's books. Alec was played by Richard Ian Cox. Henry was played by Mickey Rooney, who played the same role in the 1979 Movie which stared Kelly Reno as Alec. Alec was pretty much teenager through the entire series. We know this by the fact it only went 3 seasons, and Alec got his drivers license early in season 2, since in the states to get your DL you have to be at least 16, Alec may have been 18 or 19 when the series finished but he was not his 20's as a previous poster indicated. I think most people who like horses would enjoy this series.I thought the episodes were done well, I enjoyed the storyline and plots. I think more young people will enjoy it more and those who watched it when they were younger. Season 1 – majority of it they were in America, near the end or middle , they go to France. Season 2 – they are in France but soon go to America and then later end up back in France Season 3 – took place in New Zealand.
Punk19 Alec Ramsey(Richard Ian Cox) is shipwrecked on an island with a wild untameable stallion that is coal black. Finding the only resources he can find Alec feeds the starving animal and they become fast friends. Being rescued and taken back to America they meet Henry Daily(Mickey Rooney)who sees an aspiring race horse in The Black. They train him up to be in th Chicago Match race between Cyclone and Sun Raider. And amazingly they win without fault.Recommended to anyone. Especially young children. This is filmed in the best way a film can be filmed. With careful antics and wonderful minds evolved.
