Synopsis

Will, a street-smart teenager, moves from the tough streets of West Philly to posh Bel-Air to live with his Uncle Philip, Aunt Vivian, his cousins — spoiled Hilary, preppy Carlton and young Ashley — and their sophisticated British butler, Geoffrey. Though Will’s antics and upbringing contrast greatly with the upper-class lifestyle of his extended relatives, he soon finds himself right at home as a loved part of the family.

Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
merelyaninnuendo The Fresh Prince Of Bel-AirThe origin of Will Smith's fame and too many mentions from The Graham Norton Show got me to binge watch this series which I think has a potential to be a typical one-time-watch sitcom. The creators made the relations pretty much clear from the first frame now all one seek and wait for is their character development through this journey with hopefully no dips on content or humor. The relation between Will Smith and Tatyana Ali seemed interesting at first but wasn't explored to that extent and instead all the guns were directed towards Alfonso Rebeiro (his portrayal of Carlton is the highlight of the series, it is flat out hilarious) whose sibling rivalry ups the ante of the series and James Avery's intense relation with Will that helps bind it all. The series walks on light and breezy path with a sense of awareness of its existence that opens this whole new floor where they access and visits places where only parody goes to which is kind of eerie to encounter. This huge bold step comes with both pros and cons where pro is that it draws out most of its laugh and con being when the series attempts to go on a more dramatic path the audience somehow feels disconnected to it and the emotions comes out a bit shallow which undermines the whole build-up that they usually tend to work for the whole episode. The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air similar to its protagonist, is just goofy where the priority is the punch line of the joke and nothing else.
lkinguk Every white character is painted as unattractive, clumsy and brainless. Had the shoe been on the other foot they it would be written off as racist garbage and there would be riots in Baltimore. But its not - its directed at white people and of course you cannot be racially offensive to white folk can you ?
Kirpianuscus like may series from the first years of "90 decade, it was source of fascination. because it represents the open door to a real and profound different world. eccentric, almost strange for a viewer behind the Iron Curtain, "The Fresh Prince of Bel - Air" remains one of the most provocative series. not just for the racial reason but for a form of freedom and humor who seems bizarre. not itself but in a context who escapes to the expectations. like many series from beginning of "1990 years, it has the precise status of legendary. but it has another virtue - the first meet with a star who , for today, remains always surprising - Will Smith.
Shopaholic35 I used to love watching reruns of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when I was younger. I still find it hilarious but now that I've grown up some of the shine has worn off. I'm finding it harder and harder to respect Will Smith as he continues to grow more selfish and socially unaware. What used to be comical is now just plain rude. He comes off like a spoiled rich kid with no manners. In saying all of that I still love the show and think all the characters are hilarious but every now and then things start to turn a little sour. I think the rest of the cast balances out the occasional negativeness.I don't want to be too harsh though, as Will Smith still is very funny and works well with the other cast members. They all seem to have a great relationship and play off well from each other. They really do seem like a real family and I think that's what makes it so entertaining. So aside from a few flaws overall The Fresh Prince still is a really great show.
