Synopsis

The Invisible Man is a Sci-Fi American television series starring Vincent Ventresca, Paul Ben-Victor, Eddie Jones, Shannon Kenny and Michael McCafferty. Somewhat more successful than previous television series involving invisible secret agents, it aired from June 9, 2000 to February 1, 2002, lasting two seasons. The plot revolves around Darien Fawkes, a thief facing life imprisonment who was recruited by a low-rent spy organization and given the power of invisibility via implantation of a special "Quicksilver gland" in his head. The gland allows Fawkes to secrete a light-bending substance called "Quicksilver" from his pores and follicles. The substance quickly coats his skin, hair, nails and clothes and renders him invisible. He can consciously release the Quicksilver, which then flakes off and disintegrates. However, the Quicksilver gland was sabotaged at its creation by scientist Arnaud DeFehrn to release a neurotoxin that accumulates in the bloodstream and causes intense pain, followed by antisocial behavior and psychosis. The host requires regular doses of "counteragent" to keep him sane and healthy, which is controlled by said government agency. This series lasted for two seasons, before being cancelled due to cost issues and internal bickering between the Sci Fi Channel and its then-parent company, USA Networks. The show's first season ran concurrently in first-run syndication as well as on Sci Fi.

ShangLuda Admirable film.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
jlogan-24028 No Annoying Characters!!! How many shows can say that? Let's see... Firefly was one of them... they just never last for some reason. What is the issue with shows that don't stress the viewer? If the show is well done & has a vibe that doesn't call for Xanax after viewing, it gets cancelled. We live in Backwards World. If more shows like this were on the air, I would not have given away all 4 of my TVs!!!
Sue McCartin I loved this series when it was on, I watched it all the time when it was on sci-fi channel. For its time they did pretty darn good with the special effects; these days it would be all CG and a ton cheaper I'm sure. From what I've read it wasn't a matter of being canceled so much as a matter of it was getting too expensive to keep shooting it and there was apparently some squabbling amongst those in control. For the record they didn't kill the main character off, and, they actually "ended" the series with a happy ending. Fawks is still walking around, if they wanted to they could do a movie or a mini series, I just hope they could get the same cast. Fawks and Dobbs played off each other wonderfully, Keeper was really good in her role too. The official...well sometimes you wanted to throttle him but he was good in his role too and he did end up softening a bit to his charges at many points during the series. I can't really think of a single episode that could be called silly or hokey. I just got the whole series to watch all over again, I remember a lot of them but I guess I missed a few too. I'm enjoying them all over again, the stories are not dated, the same sorts of things are still going on today. I don't think I've seen any other movies the lead was in but he's pretty darn good now I've got to go looking for his other stuff. This is a family show, no cursing, a minimum of violence (as shows go today) and thought provoking stories that even most kids will understand while there's also something in there for the older crowd watching with them.
CommandoCody After two failed attempts by the major networks to do a successful series about an invisible man, cable TV gave it a try in Y2K. Their version differed from the others and the movies; not necessarily for the better. First, the invisible man was a loser, a third rate, second story man, named Darien. Turns out he's not a very good thief either (too bad they didn't recruit Nyah Nordoff-Hall). After going down for his third strike, he faces life behind bars with no parole. His scientist brother offers him a way out. All Darien has to do it allowing his brother to put an experimental gland in his head that can make him invisible occasionally. Opting for the gland should have been a no-brainer. This moron however, actually had to think over which was preferable--not a good sign. I'm sure the idea was to give the show an "edge" by making the invisible man a cool and macho anti-hero. Given that his favorite expression is "Aw crap," I'd say that they missed the boat on that one.Anyway, this mysterious gland causes him to secrete "quicksilver," a so-called, light bending substance. The first time he transforms is admittedly eye opening. Darien fades out much quicker in subsequent episodes. I've always had problems with the notion of quicksilver. Since light travels over 186,000 miles per second you'd need the gravitational pull of a black hole to alter its course. If light was bent around Darien, then no light passed through his retinas so he should see nothing but total darkness. Quicksilver is a mercury-like liquid so why doesn't it rub off on bad guys when he punches them? In one episode, quicksilver was cold enough to freeze the mechanism of a time bomb. Yet, Darien can be seen by thermal imaging goggles which register heat.I could easily go on questioning how quicksilver allegedly works but why bother. What it really does is save money on special effects. It also enables Darien to keep his clothes on unlike Jack Griffin, so he can enjoy the advantages of being invisible without facing any of the, ah hem, "hardships." To pay homage to HG Wells however, Darien will go insane without regular injections of quicksilver counteragent supplied by a secret, no budget government agency. This supposedly forces Darien to work for these clowns who apparently handle foreign and domestic problems the FBI and CIA apparently care little about.A better name for this series would have been Vanishing Man. Darien spends an awful lot of time in a very opaque state, whining and bickering with that grouch of a partner he was paired with-Bobby Hobbes. As a result, I often found myself siding with the show's recurring villains-Arnaud and Stark. I found them to be much more interesting to watch than the guys chasing them. The show was canceled following its second season cause the ratings failed to justify production costs. Aw crap.
yojimbo999 You know, i didn't much care for this series when it first came on. The pilot was lackluster and craptacular. But the series, as it progresses, has been very good, and I've become addicted! Go figure. The one thing I like most about it is the fun nature of the episodes. There is very good chemistry between the actors, from the lead to his co-stars. Although, I must say, the one weak point in this series are the villains. I'm not sure where the show is shot (probably Canada), and I don't know who is doing their casting for them, but all the villains are surprisingly very young-looking and not very menacing. Take the main villain, who has a recurring role (and the villain of the pilot), who is NOT good at all. That's not to say the actor playing him is bad, but, God, the guy just isn't very menacing. And that goes for most of INvisible Man's villains. They're just...there. Even the "corporate bad guys" are sorta...just there.Anyways, the show is fun. It doesn't take itself very seriously and goes for camp more often than not. And it helps that the main actors all have good chemistry with each other, particularly the lead and his partner and the female love interest, whose real name escapes me, but whose character name is The Keeper. Fun stuff. Hope it stays on for a while.
