Ketrivie It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%
Kayden This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Irena (irenaspa) I saw this tv series before it got some awards and I was surprised wondering with what it deserves them. I was very disappointed when I was watching it, with everything starting from acting to the way how they made developing of plot. Really sad, more than sad, especially if you have some respect toward actors as are Hugh Lauri or Tom Hiddleston and then after seeing it, you realized you overrated them. Love/passion scenes in it?!!! Come on?!!! It is so ridiculous and unconvincing. As someone gave the title of his/her review in here, it is waste of time.
ramazini Just finished the series and overall I really enjoyed it. Few things bothered me, though, and I am not sure if I was being too picky or just taking a fiction story too seriously, but, for instance, in the episode where John had to memorize TONS of numbers just by glancing at them (writing them down moments later) defied all our knowledge on memory (specially shot term memory). It was like a supernatural ability, even considering the character background as a trained spy/military. Actors made a good job, but few characters were irrelevant. IMO, I dunno why people still insist on female characters playing "the bond girl" role... I think it's high time we abandon this overused formula. Even 007 movies are abandoning (or "relaxing") this recipe. In Quantum of Solace, for instance, there wasn't a proper bond-girl (in the traditional way). Finally, it is always a pleasure to see Hugh Laurie doing new stuff. I just thought they should have made him "less naive" and maybe more sadistic, but I will not go deeper in this point for spoilling reasons. But anyways, it is a good show, much (MUCH) better than most of the crappy series that have been released lately. Greetings from Brazil!
mathmaniac Espionage? Ugh.Who are some of the actors in this strangely titled television series? Some of the most respected: Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie. The script is very well-written, but I say that not having read the book from which the series was adapted, with the same title and written by John Le Carre. I took advantage of free viewing with Amazon Prime. I'm very glad I did because I dislike espionage films or TV and would have passed this one up. There are terrific espionage films and TV and I always end up enjoying them - anything by Tom Clancy, for example. 'The Night Manager' was not an exception. The plot is so nicely laid out, the environment of a hotel seems to be custom-made for drama ('Hotel Babylon' is light entertainment but proves my point. Nothing but story lines in a hotel! The stakes are high - bringing down a well-respected man who is, unknown to the greater world, a criminal. The wonderful thing to me about this production is the opportunity to hear the voices of Laurie and Hiddleston. They speak and you listen. Their voices are like musical instruments.
foghorn_clj There's a lot to like in this engaging mini series about a former military man who decides to take down a corrupt businessman doing a profitable arms trade. Much more than the above plot description would have you believe (given the hollow generic Hollywood action movies that have been created over the years). The characters have depth, the dialogue is fresh, the locations breathtaking and the camera work and direction is flawless. But the real treat is the stunning performances of Laurie and Hiddleston. It's impossible to stop watching these two brilliant actors play off each other and they effortless carry the series through to it's end.
