The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

Although this series is rather "old" and shown on our TV channel some time ago, I began watching it some months ago - as I have realized that, for overall picture and comprehension, such series should be watched in succession, no mixing of seasons and episodes and seeing them all. But 88 episodes take some time...I cannot say that The Shield captivated me from the first episodes: rough environment, nervous atmosphere, and a certain murder of a certain cop made me doubt how the following events and relations would resolve, how would I personally see the arm of the law fighting for "good" in complex areas of LA. True, it is mostly realistic, as the series itself is loosely based on real events, but it is so different from the issues the police in my country has to deal with. But then, gradually and soon, I began to grow accustomed, and "broke into" the characters and events, had compassion for and became disgusted, and was anxious to see how some tricky events would be settled or fade away. As most characters are so versatile and performances so strong, it was a relief to focus on them when a case became too knotty; apart from the actors I have been following a long time (Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker, for example), I took note of many others whose career and other works aroused my interest (starting from Michael Chiklis). Well, one might wonder how so many torts and felonies could last so long, with touch and go, but all in all, The Shield is a good and realistic series, depicting the problems resulting from drug use, racial seclusion, possession of firearms, and general poverty in a metropolis, particularly known for glamorous Hollywood. Not a family watch though.

Good Lord.....can this garbage be so 'revered' that it lasted 8 series? Firstly...by the first half of season 2 we find out that EVERYONE who is on the police force or associated with it is either corrupt already or willing/able/or about to be corrupted due to some terrible transgression in their past. By the end of season 1 there are only 2 people among the dozen or so regular staff that 'SEEM' to be honest.... These do not include the main cops and their partners, the police chief or the commissioner.... There doesn't seem to be a solid relationship among the whole bunch and most are gay, killers, drug dealers or drug distributors and nearly everyone is being blackmailed or is blackmailing someone else from the chief down the the lowest rookie cop. Picture The Young & Restless with guns and you'll be pretty close. Perhaps it gets better after season 2 but I was unable to gag myself any further than that. Sadly it fits PERFECTLY into the standard American LA is a tough place drama and only the tough survive. If Hollywood fantasy is what you crave AND you STILL believe Road Runner could stay hovering just by moving his legs....then this is the PERFECT show for you. For those of us who prefer the 'plausible'....we'll pass on it.

Very good series. Perhaps one of the best police series ever. But really good news, however, ends with the end of the third season.From the fourth season started on bad news. Until the very end for full more 4 seasons (Oh dear, no, no, no...). It's just a stretch of old chewing gum. Much more you chew, the more you feel bored. Shakespeare was very fortunate that nobody did not require from him to write seven more seasons on Hamlet, after the success of the first and only season of play.Apparently the creators of "The Shield" have tried (unsuccessfully) to compensate the loss of substantiality with the inclusion of more and more different new faces and good actors, including the "heavy artillery" as Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker. Nothing helps, even artificial hyper energy vigor of the main character (in the performance of Michael Chiklis).My advice is - if you're not ready to undergo four more seasons annoyance and boredom (due to repetition of repetition), just to finished watching the series with the end of the third season. If not, this is equal you possibly make an attempt to chew (through for all 7 seasons) the same bubble gum that has can't withstand such infinitely long and meaningless stretch. Just no way, at least in this reality.

I love these kind of series, and The Shield was not on my watch list before recently. However the shaky "modern cam work" really has to stop - period! Time is not favoring shaky cam movies / TV series well and you definitely see it now 10+ years later on The Shield.In series 3 it really got to the point I couldn't watch it anymore. Just got really annoyed because it was no longer "shaky" because of no tripods etc; now it was zoomed and shakes just for effects and a very cheap effect I might add..Hopefully this "phase" of camera work is behind us for future TV series like The Shield. I am really really unsatisfied by this because other than the camera work the series is a 8 / 10.
