Reviews

Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
LeDentalPlaque Utopia is probably the worst show ever conceived. Someone spent a lot of time and money making a paradise out of place, only to have it ruined by a whole bunch of random people who try and figure out some kind of democratic type of governing system as they live there. However, it soon becomes a whole bunch of meaningless drama about simple things.Instead of taking a step into utopia, this show actually takes a step back into dystopia. The cast is horrid, these people cannot be related to and cannot be liked, and you just don't feel any connection to anyone. None whatsoever, and certainly not enough to keep you watching the show.I give this a 1/10 because it's just that awful of a series. There's no point to it, and I don't see how anyone could enjoy watching people destroying a utopian world that was made for them.
lunapaydon Well, it's not too exciting of a show and it has it's ups and downs but I keep watching it. I am attached to the characters and want to see what happens next. I like the characters. Watching how characters change from the first episode and their interactions with each other is interesting. I enjoy seeing how they are forming a society in terms of politically and surviving. I wish it would focus more on the survival aspects. I don't like how they have to make money somehow. It's a lot less exciting that they can just purchase groceries and comfort items. If they had a very bare minimum amount of money just given to them and if they were forced to grow more food or something, maybe it'd be more interesting. It's a cross between big brother and survivor but to be honest those are both better shows. I think one problem is that Utopia tries too hard. the host is such a goof and the voice over is so ridiculous it's kind of hilarious.
atlasmb What happens when you take fifteen very diverse people and isolate them on a plot of land called Utopia and let them devise their own way of living? That is the question asked by the new Fox show "Utopia".After the first two episodes, there are numerous problems apparent. Some of the residents (Fox calls them "pioneers") have anger issues. Since they don't get along well with others, their behavior disrupts the peace of the group. But you don't start with a utopia. You start with anarchy and then, if you wish, you try to achieve your version of utopia. It should be noted that most utopian communities are populated by people who already had some agreement about what the ideal society looks like. Here, there is widespread disagreement. One person sees religion as the center of utopia. Another would ban money, power and religion. A couple of the residents--Dave and Red--believe, essentially, in the original anarchy, not wanting to be governed by anyone other than themselves. We might ask why, then, did they come to this society? A realist would say they are there to generate ratings. In the early going, it looks like "Utopia" may be an interesting social experiment, where the basic nature of man is explored. It is for this reason I am watching. But we should not fool ourselves. The size of this community is not large enough to be considered a statistically significant sample, so lessons learned from watching should not be generalized to the general population of the U.S.I predicted, after the first show, that the group would fracture into sub-groups. That has already happened. It's a problem, but it doesn't mean the fifteen can't get along. I actually find some parts difficult to watch, but I am hoping this group can reach an equilibrium.Update 9/24//14: After the third week, this experiment is even more interesting that I thought it would be. Almost every day is filled with successes and failures.
blabla-9-265056 If you like big brother, you'll like this TV show. Definitely somewhat predictable behavior from the cast at first as they adjust each other's personalities to one another. Arguing, and a healthy dose of conflicts. They have obviously been chosen as a clashing group of people but when you think about it, a group put together in a new community would not be all of the same mindset. (thumbs up for varied personalities) Its not a perfect world and everyone is different. This is why I think it creates a more realistic view of who you could be stuck with if you had to start new with a group of people. Variety. All that being said, there is drama but who tunes into a program and doesn't expect drama? Its good entertainment. I also enjoy seeing how a diverse group of people manage to form rules and live together when left to fend for themselves amidst a semi-wild setting with basic amenities. I'm not a doomsday prepper but wouldn't you like to see how people deal with themselves realistically in a back to basics environment? (post apocalyptic/ survival/ disaster stricken world) I remember doing a similar camping trip in high school for outdoor education class and it teaches people to work together, you learn allot to work together and people's strengths!Good show so far!
