Synopsis

You Can't Do That on Television is a Canadian television program that first aired locally in 1979 before airing internationally in 1981. It featured pre-teen and teenaged actors in a sketch comedy format. Each episode had a theme. The show was notable for launching the careers of many performers, including Alanis Morissette, and writer Bill Prady, who would write and produce shows like The Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls and Dharma and Greg. The show was produced by and aired on Ottawa's CTV station CJOH-TV. After production ended in 1990, the show continued in reruns on Nickelodeon through 1994, when it was replaced with the similar All That. The show is synonymous with Nick, and was at that time extremely popular, with the highest ratings overall on the channel. The show is also well known for introducing the network's iconic slime. The program is the subject of the 2004 feature-length documentary, You Can't Do That on Film, directed by David Dillehunt.

Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
DarkVulcan29 This show was so far ahead of it's time, cause it was a little edgy with it's humor. If you think about this show put Nicholdeon on the map. I really loved watching this show as a kid, I grew to love the young cast Christine Mcglade, Lisa Ruddy, Alasdair Gillis, Adam Reid. Lets not forget versatile performer Les Lye who made comic history with his well known characters like gross cook named Barf, bad teacher named Mr. Shindler, and dead beat dad named Lance Prevert(get the joke on that one). It was fun watching the cast get water pored on them, and getting slimed. Christine Mcglade gave the shows charm with her witty humor, quirky smile as the host. And Alasdair Gillis style of humor seem to achieve more popularity then most of the cast. But when they left, the shows appeal was slowly slipping, I understand they had to move on, but the show was not quite the same after that. It just became one bad joke after another. Episodes with Adam Reid seem to be appealing, but when he left, then the show really sank, It was amazing that it ran for three more season, giving it a 10 and a half season run.
Angel Meiru I cannot believe that Nickelodeon has taken off "You Can't Do That on Television" (due to PC reasons of course *gags*), in fact, it was THIS show that defined the classic slime gags on the Nickelodeon from the late 70's. through the 80's and the early 90's.My favorite stetches were the "Barfy Burgers", a satire on unkept restraunts, the part where the kid gets sludged for saying "I don't know?" and anything mocking strict municipalities.Too bad this got replaced with more PC CRAP like "As Told By Ginger", "Wild Thornberries" and "Rocket Power. Shame on you Nick!
midigal This show is so off the wall that it's right on target. I really MISS THIS SHOW! When I was a kid, a good dose of "You Can't Do That On Television" and then maybe a little "Out Of Control" could put me in a great mood and could also relieve my Mom of duty for a little while. :)The silly execution sketches and the diner scenes alone make this show worthy of watching. But there's so much more. Nickelodeon's slime theme derived from the success of this show. But none of the kids nowadays will know this. Why can't they air some of the old good stuff on Nick anymore?... Hey, Nick needs to come up with a channel called "Nick - The First Generation" and then I'll actually purchase cable.~Jennifer
Courtney Benton (bentoncg) I am glad they made a show like this. I think it's neat how they got up with something like Slime & Water. I attended Slimecon & my dream about being slimed came true. Alasdair was my most favorite cast member on there!
